I'm in different when it comes to this topic. There can be a difference between the two, arts being more heartfelt and meaningful or crafts just being fun and something you do when you have the time. But like you said, Mrs. Martin, some of your family members do it and sell them at craft shows. They probably make their "art" heartfelt and love doing it.
I think the word "craft" or craft making is just another word for "art". It just depends where you were from. Some states or cities may you use the word craft in-place or the word art.
But I will agree that crafts seem to be a little more "corny" then artwork.
I agree with what you said about the creator of the piece being heartfelt with it. Without the love and devotion to the product, I doubt either side would be so adamant in continuing their endeavors in the arts and crafts world.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with the corny part, but I don't think crafts are as art filled. When I make the dream catcher for 2nd grade, it was a craft I did to past time. I didn't care about it at all. However when I made my Splinter piece, I poured my soul into the wood.
ReplyDeleteI agree that crafts are just something people do in their free time. I just don't think people understand the difference between arts and crafts so they think they made a piece of art when really its just some thing they found off the interweb and made it in 5 minutes or something.
